Effect of the Economy

The effect of the economy on 2008 SPLOST projects will require the County to prioritize the remaining 2008 SPLOST projects. It is unlikely that all of anticipated funding for the projects will be collected, due to the severe downturn in the economy; therefore, some projects will have to be scaled back and some may have to be eliminated, if SPLOST collections do not meet the estimated collections over the six (6) year collection period.

Hazardous Material Response Vehicle

Bartow County and the City of Cartersville recently developed a hazardous materials response unit. The purchase of a HAZMAT response vehicle, at an estimated cost of $400,000 will enhance the unit’s ability to adequately respond to hazardous material incidents.

B

Floodplain Mapping

Updating of the County’s floodplain maps to accurately represent the growth and changes that have taken place in the county over the last decade is a vital component to future development and growth management. The updated floodplain mapping system, which is estimated to cost $1,000,000.00, will be beneficial to county staff and planners in meeting the requirements of the new guidelines for flood control management.

Animal Shelter
